Based in Sydney, Australia, Chasing the Moon plays the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli with an energy and commitment that's reminiscent of the great jazz of days gone by. The joy is infectious. There is a freshness in the way different styles are combined, a mix of hot club with the blues, a touch of folk, flirting with Latin rhythms, lashings of swing and modern elements too. With their new CD 'Ooh La La' Chasing the Moon have added original songs and instrumentals into their repertoire which gives new strength to their unique sound. Lead vocalist and violinist Kathy Bluff delivers her distinctive style of soulful vocals and swinging jazz violin with warmth and charm. The violin intertwines with the glittering soprano and tenor sax of Paul Burjan who is also a dab hand on the flute. Well known jazz guitarist, John Blenkhorn provides the rhythmic pulse as well as Djangoesque solos played with flair and musicality. That essential Parisian ambience comes with the piano accordion of Garry Steel who is also a mesmerising performer. Jessica Dunn on double bass delivers intricate and memorable solos and along with drummer Mike Quigley lays down the best of grooves, playing sweet and in the pocket. All members are highly accomplished musicians who bring a diverse range of experience to this new project creating an entertaining and musically rich experience. The debut album from dynamic Australian gypsy jazz quintet features fresh and engaging arrangements of Hot Club swing with a touch of the blues, a dash of folk, Latin rhythms and modern elements too. A mix of soulful vocals and lively instrumentals.

Chasing the Moon's new CD “Nuages” features gypsy-styled jazz in the tradition of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. The exuberant and romantic sounds of jazz manouche are blended with classic American swing and south of the border Latin to create an engaging and lively performance style. The music has a sound that’s reminiscent of the great jazz of days gone by, of Ella tearing up a scat, Lester Young playing sweet, or Django burning the fret board. There is freshness in the way they combine different styles – a mix of hot club with the blues, a touch of folk, flirting with Latin rhythms, lashings of swing with something modern too. And there is excitement, as if they are discovering it all for the first time; taking chances and taking the audience with them. The frontline consists of Kathy Bluff on lead vocals and violin, Paul Burjan on saxophone and flute and Peter Malone on guitar. The rhythm section is John Conley on double bass and Tony Keep on drums. For the CD they are joined by special guest Garry Steel on accordion and keyboards. Bluff’s vocals are warm and soulful leading us from intimate ballads to toe-tapping upbeat swing. Burjan’s sound ranges from gently floating flute to sweet soprano and grunting tenor sax. Pete Malone’s Django-influenced guitar gives the band its distinctive gypsy feel, driving the rhythm section and swapping free floating lines with both violin and sax. John Conley (Galapagos Duck) and Tony Keep provide the rhythmic backbone of the band playing sweet and in the pocket and always to the point.
